Pride and Prejudice

Yes, this is the book we are on. I have started it. Have you or have you read it before. I have watched the movies and mini series. I am not to keen on them not using the right costumes for the era. Many use Victorian era costumes when in fact it was the Regency period. I do understand that her books were popular back in the Victorian era. The books were written in the Regency period so Jane would have pictured everything to happen in her time.
I don't mind the modern adaptations they say it is inspired by Jane Austen's book. They tell you it is modernized and inspired by her book.
Pride and Prejudice – A Cautionary Tale of Marriage, Money & Misplaced Pride
In a world where the size of one's estate dictates their worth, Elizabeth Bennet is the rebel with too much independent thought for polite society. Her mother, a devoted disciple of the "Marry Rich or Die Trying" philosophy, is determined to see her daughters strategically wedded to the first eligible bachelor who so much as glances their way.
Enter Mr. Darcy, a walking, brooding embodiment of immense wealth and crippling social awkwardness. He promptly insults Elizabeth upon arrival, because, naturally, deep emotional repression is the ultimate romantic gesture. As misunderstandings pile up faster than ballroom gossip, Elizabeth slowly realizes that her early prejudices might have led her to overlook Darcy's mildly tolerable personality and ridiculous amounts of money.
Meanwhile, other questionable decisions take center stage:
Lydia Bennet runs off with an utterly useless man but is miraculously saved by a financial transaction.
Mr. Collins continues his one-man mission to make unsolicited proposals an Olympic sport.
And the entire novel reminds us that love is nice—but financial security is mandatory.
Ultimately, Pride and Prejudice is an insightful and hilariously brutal critique of a society where marrying well is a competitive sport, arrogance is a social skill, and judgment is passed faster than afternoon tea.
